Khomp has launched two new models for its User Media Gateways line. The new UMG 104 and UMG FXS 240 are highly reliable devices with competitive investment, ideal for small to medium-sized business that wish to have all the benefits of VoIP telephony. But what are these advantages anyway?
VoIP telephony allows for making national or international long-distance calls at much lower rates than conventional telephony. For this, it is necessary to connect your analog equipments to a media gateway and sign up with a VoIP carrier. Although it is a paid service, the rates charged by a VoIP carrier for a long distance call are equivalent to a local call through a conventional carrier, so that the investment done on VoIP technology will pay for itself in a matter of months.
UMG 104: E1/T1, SIP, and direct connection with VoIP carriers of your choice
The UMG 104 allows for connection of your legacy telephony system with up to 3 different VoIP carriers, through 3 Ethernet Giga ports located on the back of the device. This provides a better link performance, since the ports are dedicated for connecting to the carriers. Thus, it is possible to choose the VoIP carrier plans that offer the lowest rates for each modality, for example, one for local calls, one for long distance calls, and another for calls to mobile phones.
For device management and maintenance, there is another exclusive Ethernet Giga port. The UMG 104 offers 1 E1/T1 link (30 channels) and 30 VoIP channels, providing capacity for up to 30 simultaneous calls, with support for G.711 (A-law e µ-law) and G.729 codecs, in addition to T.38 protocol for scenarios where fax is used.

UMG FXS 240: 24 analog extensions for connecting to the VoIP network
Another advantage of IP telephony is that it protects the investment already made on analog equipment, allowing for its use to access the IP network. With the UMG FXS 240, it is possible to connect up to 24 analog extensions to access the various SIP applications hosted in cloud systems, such as IP PBX, call recorder, and IVR (Interactive Voice Response), which offer much more facilities and for a much lower rate than the analog equivalent.
The UMG 240 has 24 FXS channels and 24 VoIP channels, in addition to two Ethernet Giga ports, which allow for connection of more than one VoIP carrier and for placing them on the same or on distinct networks, in order to hide the topology of the internal communication network, making it safe against attacks. Another distinguishing feature is that the UMG FXS 240 makes call identification available for analog telephones with an LCD display, in addition to features such as pendulum (answering one call while the other remains on hold, with the possibility of alternating between calls), call transferring and putting a call on hold, ideal for scenarios with cloud PBX. Like the other products of the UMG line, the UMG FXS 240 also supports G.711 (A-law and µ-law) and G.729 codecs, in addition to T.38 protocol (fax).
