Aware of the ever-increasing use of the GSM technology, Khomp has included in its line of media gateways models that can be purchased with GSM-only interfaces in their configuration. We have already mentioned here on this blog models that offer high capacity for handling simultaneous GSM calls, which are intended for large operations. Learn more about the UMG Modular 300 with GSM-only interfaces, designed for the small-scale corporate scenario.
Khomp GSM media gateways allow you to make mobile phone calls directly from a SIM Card installed in the device. This way, a call that would otherwise be made from a landline to a mobile phone can now be made from one SIM Card to another SIM Card, reducing the carrier rates down to promotional costs, or even to zero cost when calls are made within a carrier’s network.*
Now that this concept is clear, let’s talk about other features of the Khomp GSM media gateways and see what they can do for your telephony operations.
Capacity for number of calls and carriers
The UMG Modular 300 is exclusively for GSM calls and can handle 2, 4, or 6 simultaneous cellular calls, depending on the needs of the company. This modularity is enabled by the flexible architecture of the device, which allows you to start with a minimum of 2 GSM interfaces and purchase more of them as the demand grows.
The GSM interfaces are compatible with both 2G and 3G technologies. They accept SIM Cards from all mobile phone carriers, and you can have SIM Cards from different carriers on the same device. So, this is a great benefit because it enables you to install SIM Cards from up to 6 different carriers on the device, covering a wide range of carriers to reduce rates.
You can easily manage these SIM Cards through the web interface that is provided with the product. This interface also lets you configure output routes for calls, a feature known by “lowest cost routes”.

SIM Card grouping
The UMG Modular 300 GSM-only SIM Cards can be grouped according to whichever definition is more convenient for the company, such as by carrier, by prefix, by purchased plan, etc.
Another feature that is available is the ability to balance calls among SIM Cards by using an intelligent call routing algorithm. This way, it is possible to predict and avoid the excessive use of a carrier, which can lead to contractual penalties.*
Minute control
Another benefit of this device is the ability to control the minutes spent, which can be performed individually per SIM Card or for previously configured groups. This feature facilitates the management of the purchased plans, thus enhancing the efficiency of the control of calls and costs.
Automatic call routing
In addition to preventing the excessive use of a carrier, the intelligent GSM call routing also automatically transfers calls from a busy SIM Card to a previously defined second and third SIM Card, following the predefined hierarchy.
