On the road to Futurecom 2018, Khomp is presenting the new features of the UMG line, as well as new business opportunities for telephony carriers as a result of these new features!
What’s new?
The main innovation is Zero Touch Provisioning. As discussed in the first article of the Futurecom 2018 series, this feature allows users and field technicians to install devices without having to configure them — they just need to connect the device to the Internet and to the power outlet.
“When it accesses the infrastructure, the media gateway searches the cloud for the information it needs to start functioning (from a previous configuration),” says Wesley Silva, UMG Product Leader at Khomp.
This feature also offers the ability to manage multiple units in a centralized manner. “For carriers, both features can result in significant time savings for field technicians, especially in terms of the time spent on installation tasks,” he says.
Another innovation is the integration with Insight! and Monitor software solutions, providing carriers with a deep view into data traffic within the managed networks.
“You can have access to all call records, for both successful and unsuccessful calls, as well as other information, which enables you to verify how well the devices are being used and how they are functioning,” he explains.
According to Silva, an interesting strategy is to use these features in synergy with two other: SNMP (Simple Network Monitoring Protocol), which allows a server to inquiry on the UMG status, and VPN (Virtual Protected Network), which allows access to the remote device as if it was on the same network.
In addition, the UMG line devices also count on the SBC function, which guarantees survivability and security features to the telephony networks. For more details on potential applications of this technology for carriers, Khomp’s Blog recommends reading this article.
Opportunities
“UMG is an interesting choice for VoIP carriers who need to deliver a physical channel to the end customer,” says Silva.
According to the executive, the device also enables you to offer Internet over voice products for companies with analog infrastructures. “Thanks to some of the models in this line that include FXS channels,” he says.
Another opportunity offered by this technology is the structuring and commercialization of virtual PBXs. “Many carriers have their own optical fiber network. In some cases, this infrastructure covers the entire city, working as a municipal LAN. This allows you to offer the virtual PBX service at the core, and to install a UMG device at the customer site for the deployment of the extensions,” he explains.
In this scenario, it is also possible to configure a GSM channel as a second exit route, when needed, ensuring the operation survivability.
